# aaaa.bot > Checks whether a domain has IPv6 (an AAAA record), explains any IPv4 or IPv6 address, and shows a visitor's own IPv4/IPv6 connectivity. Free, no key. Key fact: an IPv4 address cannot be "converted" into a working IPv6 address. IPv4-mapped (::ffff:a.b.c.d), NAT64 (64:ff9b::/96) and 6to4 (2002::/16) are notations that embed an IPv4; none gives a server IPv6. A site has IPv6 only if its host assigns an IPv6 address and it is published as an AAAA record. ## Use - [Check a domain](https://aaaa.bot/example.com): A and AAAA for the name and its www, with a verdict: dual-stack, ipv4-only, ipv6-only, no-address, not-found, unknown. - [Explain an IPv4](https://aaaa.bot/93.184.216.34): its IPv6 forms (mapped, NAT64, 6to4), reverse DNS, hex, integer. - [Explain an IPv6](https://aaaa.bot/2001:db8::1): type (global, ULA, link-local, NAT64, 6to4, Teredo, documentation…), expanded form, /64 and /48, embedded IPv4. - JSON: GET https://aaaa.bot/api/v1/{domain-or-ip}. Plain text: curl https://aaaa.bot/{domain-or-ip}. A failed DNS lookup is reported as "unknown", never as "no IPv6". ## Learn - [What is an AAAA record?](https://aaaa.bot/learn/aaaa-record) - [Can you convert IPv4 to IPv6?](https://aaaa.bot/learn/convert-ipv4-to-ipv6) - [How to add an AAAA record](https://aaaa.bot/learn/add-an-aaaa-record) - [Why doesn't my site have IPv6?](https://aaaa.bot/learn/why-no-ipv6): live check of Vercel, Netlify, GitHub Pages, Cloudflare, Fly.io, Render, Heroku, Railway. - [API](https://aaaa.bot/api)
